It already had been a stressful Sunday for “cubsfan333.”
On Saturday against Georgia Tech, Clemson looked like the team that started out 6-0, not the one that lost to Syracuse. The selection committee will factor in the injury to Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant in the Tigers’ loss to the Orange, but defensively, Clemson did not perform well in that game.
We’ll get a sense of the committee’s thinking when it releases its rankings on Tuesday. It’s the first of six rankings, but it will reveal how highly the committee regards the Big Ten, and whether it comes at a price to the Big 12.
“I mean it’s early in the season, I feel like, to do it but it wasn’t one of those meetings where it was so ‘over the top,’ so to speak,” Love said. “It was just figuring out exactly what we need to do. We watched certain segments on film of the game. We broke down film a little bit differently and came out here and got some good work in.”
“We’ll look at that week-to-week,” Shanahan said. “It’s a huge challenge. You know, Jimmy coming here, never playing in this offense before. I know it’s a completely different terminology from what he had in New England and college. That takes a lot of time. I know Jimmy is going to come in here and do everything he can to get ready. I know we are too, but by no means are we trying to rush the process.
Mike Gillislee still looks likely to get goal-line touches, and the role of James White plus Burkhead cannot be ignored, but based on volume and performance, Lewis is still an add that will likely rank inside our top 30 running backs each week once the Patriots return from a bye in Week 10.
