Reggie Wayne on Patriots signing bonus: ‘They told me to keep it’

Elite Kids James Van Riemsdyk Jersey
Reggie Wayne was not a Patriots wide receiver very long — 11 days in 2015, to be exact — but there was one unsolved mystery regarding his one-year, $2.8 million contract.

Wayne’s deal included a $450,000 signing bonus, but no one knew what happened to the nearly half a million when he and the team mutually agreed to part ways.

Traditionally, the Steelers have always had difficulties with the salary cap, but a commitment to younger talent in recent years has changed their fortunes. They should be right in the middle of the NFL with about $35 million in cap room before they begin to sign extensions and free agents.

That is a far cry from the days when the Steelers would spend the next three weeks restructuring player contracts for cap relief at the expense of future cap flexibility.

You be the judge. Sporting News found the leaked Super Bowl commercials for 2017 ahead of the big game. T-Mobile, Tide, KFC, Audi, Ford, Nintendo, Kia, Budweiser — they’re all here. There will be no Doritos ad this year, though, as the company ended its streak of hilarious Super Bowl commercials.

Elite Kids Nolan Cromwell Jersey As for past Super Bowl commercials, SN also ranked the 10 best since 2000.

Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald, whom Sullivan said is like a son, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame when he’s done playing. Sullivan said Fitzgerald is another complete receiver who does everything well. Sullivan also coached former Rams receiver Isaac Bruce during Bruce’s final season, in San Francisco.

I love the guy. Was he ever that fast? He was a 4.5 guy, Sullivan said of Bruce. He’s one of the top five receivers in the history of the league. He was very sudden, very quick, very elusive, good skills running with the ball. Was he super-fast? No. But he played faster than anyone and was never caught.

No rotation, no problem as Rockies continue to lead NL West

Authentic Womens Mike Moustakas Jersey Good, but they can never win with that pitching staff. That’s what most have said about the Rockies since their World Series loss in 2007.

Despite consistently possessing one of the best lineups in MLB, Colorado has been unable to break the hump during the last decade, and contend for a meaningful postseason run.

The Rockies beat the Reds 12-6 Friday to improve to 27-16 on the season while leading the competitive National League West. Alexi Amarista led Colorado with three hits, a home run and four RBIs.

The one exception to the warm welcome was a not-so-subtly placed ad for throwback White Sox jerseys.

Whether intentional or not — it’s much more fun to assume the ad’s placement was a conscious decision made by someone within the White Sox organization — the throwback jerseys symbolize the beginning of the end for Sale’s career in Chicago, when he cut up all of the team’s throwback uniforms before a game last season because they were uncomfortable to wear.

Sale was traded last December in a deal that sent four players, including highly regarded infield prospect Yoan Moncada, to the White Sox.

With the Astros lineup being as deep as it is, Gonzalez has seen the majority of his at-bats in the seventh spot. There, he’s batting .339/.412/.678 with five home runs and five doubles. He’s thriving in that spot, where he’s sometimes followed by either Alex Bregman or Jake Marisnick, who are also having good seasons. Marisnick and Bregman have both driven Gonzalez in four times when batting behind him.

Alex Smith knows the Chiefs are replacing him

nike_chargers_223When the Kansas City Chiefs traded up to No. 10 to select Pat Mahomes II in the 2017 draft, it felt familiar to Alex Smith. It was clear the Chiefs were preparing to move on from Smith, much like the 49ers did with Colin Kaepernick back in 2012.

“There is a little similarity,” Smith said while speaking at a community event on Wednesday. “I’m an older quarterback, and they drafted a kid that’s coming in young and they’re looking to develop.”

Roger Goodell insists that Thursday night games are better than other games, “almost by every barometer.

“On safety, and we’ve been tracking this every year, there has not been any, any indication or facts or anything else that would indicate the level of injuries are up on Thursday night,” Goodell said in January on The Herd with Colin Cowherd.

But players don’t agree. Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman said the turnaround for Thursday night games is “terrible.”

“We played, got home at like 1 o’clock in the morning something like that on Monday, and then you got to play again,” Sherman said. “I mean, congratulations NFL, you did it again. But they’ve been doing it all season so I guess we’re the last ones to get the middle finger.”

If the modified overtime rule does pass, as it is expected to, there will be more ties. But it’s unlikely to have any measurable positive impact on player health and safety.

Cowboys cornerback Nolan Carroll arrested on DWI charge

Limited Kids Steve Smith Sr Jersey Nolan Carroll’s tenure in Dallas is not off to a good start.

The veteran cornerback, who signed with the Cowboys as a free agent in March, was arrested Monday on a DWI charge.

Even though general manager Dave Gettleman has told reporters Oher has been working out on his own, the 30-year-old hasn’t participated in any of the team’s voluntary offseason program in Charlotte, including the OTAs that started Tuesday.

Oher was accused of assaulting an Uber driver April 14 in Nashville and given a citation. He has a June 6 court date to address that charge.

Even though both sides have indicated Oher has a place on the team, Carolina recently signed free agent left tackle Matt Kalil to a five-year, $55.5 million deal. That addition likely means Oher will have to battle for the right tackle position against Daryl Williams and Taylor Moton if he clears concussion protocol.

Elite Kids Perry Riley Jersey Dennison is expected to bring more zone blocking to an offensive line that’s used to a mix of power and zone. Neither the veterans nor the youngsters should have much trouble adapting.

The biggest question mark with this group is where second-round pick Dion Dawkins fits as a rookie. If the Bills are not comfortable letting him play right tackle immediately, he’ll slide to right guard, opposite Pro Bowler Richie Incognito and in between Eric Wood (center) and Jordan Mills (right tackle).
